To apply for a work visa, your nationality is less relevant. In most cases, you must first find a job and then you can apply for a work permit visa in Mexico.

How to apply for a Mexico visa?

Mexico Visa Type

There are basically three types of Mexico visas depending on the time of your stay.  

  • Mexico tourist visas are granted for a period of up to 180 days. This visa is primarily for entry into Mexico for travel or other employment reasons.  
  • Temporary resident visas are issued to foreign nationals wishing to migrate to Mexico. This is for more than six months but less than four years. Temporary permanent visas include work visas and family visas 
  • Mexico Permanent Resident Permit  This type of visa is most common for foreigners wishing to stay in Mexico for retirees living in Mexico with a separate income. This is why this visa is also referred to as a Mexican retirement visa. Foreigners who have lived in Mexico for at least four years as temporary residents are also eligible for permanent residency in Mexico. 

Temporary resident visa requirements

A temporary resident visa from Mexico is the type of permit you apply for if you want to stay in Mexico. It lasts for more than six months but less than four years. As such, you must use documentation of the reasons for traveling to Mexico:
 
  • Enrollment in a Mexican educational institution; Or
  • Work permits and employment contracts; Or
  • Proof of family connection with a Mexican resident or person

Who needs a Mexican student visa?

Foreigners planning to study in Mexico for more than 180 days must apply for a student visa from Mexico. There are two types of Mexican student visas: 
  • Temporary Resident Student Visas are for students taking courses that last more than 180 days.
  • Student Visa Guest for students taking courses of less than 180 days. 

How to apply for a student visa in Mexico?

You must submit the following documents to the Embassy of Mexico, in original and in copy: 
  • Visa application completed and signed in Mexico
  • Your passport
  • You have received photocopies of any permits and stamps)
  • Passport-sized photos taken in the last six months with white backdrop.
  • Booking ticket for flight (not required )
  • The letter of acceptance from your educational institution has been sent to the Embassy of Mexico:
  • Your full name
  • The stage of study, the degree and the region you will take
  • You have brought the name of the course
  • Duration with start and end dates
  • The cost of tuition fees and if you earn a scholarship.
  • School contact details
  • Bank announcements or transactions in the last three months
  • Evidence of financial means needed to finance your stay, such as:
  • Prove that you get a stable salary of at least  $400 a month
  • Proof that you save or store
  • Proof of the scholarship you received
  • If you are a minor: Provide your birth certificate and the name of a parent or legal guardian.
  • If you are not a citizen of the country, then where you currently live. Provide legal home documentation, such as a residence permit.

Requirements for family visas in Mexico

Documents you must send when applying for a family visa in Mexico include:
 
  • Apply for a visa in Mexico.
  • Photocopy of your passport and required pages. This includes the first and last page, any visas and stamps you received
  • Passport-sized photos taken in the last six months with white backdrop.
  • Book tickets for the flight
  • Evidence of family ties such as:
  • Proof of marriage certificate or general law union of spouses / partners
  • Birth certificates, which provide proof of family ties for children, parents or siblings
  • If your family member is a resident card holder: Original and copy of their residence card
  • If your family member is an international student. Then verify their registration with a letter from their school
  • Evidence of financial solvency, by bank statement for the last 12 months, includes pelips or savings.
  • Charge for Mexico Family Visa
  • Any additional documents claimed by the Mexican Embassy

What is Mexico Tourist Card?

A Mexican tourist card, called FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple), requires a mandatory entry . For all foreign nationals traveling to Mexico for tourism purposes. 
 
Mexican authorities also implemented it to maintain a record of all visitors.
 
The single entry used by FMM can be stamped valid for 180 days from the time of air or land and immigration seal in your travel document, upon arrival in Mexico.
 
If you are traveling to Mexico or crossing any of its land borders, you can get a tourist card just fill out a simple online application form before traveling. 
 
This includes sending personal data, details of travel documents. And there is also information on expected travel to Mexico. It takes a few minutes to print the final form.
 
Email the applicant sent by the authorized FMM must do . It will be printed and displayed at the border control.
 
The Mexican Tourist Card can only be used for travel and leisure travel to Mexico. It does not give the holder the right to work or be employed in this area.
 
FMM is not a visa. Travelers from countries declared ineligible to apply for a Mexican visa must also obtain a Mexican tourist passport . In addition to an FMM, citizens can also apply for a suitable visa to visit Mexico as a tourist.
 
All tourists must have an FMM with children. For them, parents or legal guardians can fill out the application.
